North Norfolk is defined by its remarkable coastline: a vast expanse of saltmarsh, sand and shingle beaches looking out across the Wash, seaside cliffs and marran-topped sand dunes. This is a landscape shaped by tide, storm and changing patterns of coastal erosion, but also by human intervention. It is a central feature of North Norfolk’s distinctive environment.
In July 2017, supported by the Norfolk Coast Partnership, a group of conservation organisations — the National Trust, Norfolk Wildlife Trust, RSPB and Natural England — will join with the Holkham Estate to carry out the largest wildlife survey ever carried out in Norfolk. The survey will stretch from Holme-next-the-Sea to Salthouse. This 24-hour ‘bioblitz’ will seek to catalogue North Norfolk’s unique and fascinating wildlife treasures, with the ultimate goal of improving policy around their long-term protection.
